On Sunday, 22nd April – our AGM is in Bathford Village Hall at 7pm

Join us for a glass of wine and sample some cheeses (French, of course), all complimentary, as we review the past year and look ahead to events planned for this year.

June 2018   Safari Supper on Saturday, June 30th

‘The high point of the year’ according to one village resident – this popular event will see people mixing with other villagers, eating delicious food, imbibing great drinks ……. What’s not to like!

Remember to save the date in your diary.

November 2018  8 – 13 November – group visit to Artannes-sur-Indre

Our French friends have invited us to an event marking the centenary of the end of World War I – other events are also planned.  All are welcome.

Accommodation will as usual be in the houses of our host families who always make us so welcome.  Again, make a note of the date.  More details in the future.

Some snippets from Artannes

It’s a common problem the continent over. How to maintain a crumbling church building with small congregations.  Artannes has just started extensive renovation of their main church, l’église Saint Maurice, with the help of state funds and some local initiatives. Descriptions and photos can be found on the commune’s website:

The website, introduced by the mayor Bertrand Poitou, is a very comprehensive one with links to information on history, activities, local people, etc.  Do have a look at it.  One interesting news item is the success of the Artannes boulangerie in winning a competition amongst 30 bakers in the whole of the Indre and Loire region.  Christophe Hordé has won ‘best baguette’!

Twinning in our area

It is a delight to hear of the progress, in leaps and bounds, of the Box-Sorigny Twinning.  As you may know, Sorigny is a neighbouring village to Artannes.  We were involved in giving moral support and sharing details of our experiences when this link was set up and it’s pleasing that so many in the two villages now actively participate..
